The term “alkaline” is everywhere. But it can be intimidating to those that don’t know what it is or how it affects your health.
Alkalinity refers to a balanced environment within the body in which blood levels are neither too acidic nor too alkaline. When we make poor food choices, don’t get enough sleep or exercise, and experience stress, we put ourselves at risk of developing a condition known as acidosis.
Acidosis makes it easy for disease to thrive within the body. Symptoms of acidosis may include;
- weight gain,
- sinus problems,
- digestive problems,
- and fatigue... just to name a few.
Returning to an alkaline state in which disease is unlikely to develop is as easy as replacing processed foods with fruits and vegetables, getting adequate sleep every night, and controlling stress.
Check out the below list of simple ways to help you achieve alkaline status, and feel great this new year.
1) Supplement with Turmeric
Turmeric, also known as the Golden Spice, is an Indian herb that has been used as treatment for many health related issues, such as rheumatoid arthritis, skin cancer, small pox and chicken pox, wounds, urinary tract infections, and liver problems.
Turmeric is best known for its use in treating inflammation conditions or GI problems such as bloating, gas, menstrual problems, and abdominal pain. Along with being an anti-inflammatory, turmeric can also be used as an anti-microbial and anti-cancer agent according to recent studies. Turmeric also has great cognitive-boosting effects, including the treatment of depression.
Using turmeric is simple. It comes in root or pill form. Try supplementing with 300 mg of turmeric per day to help clear up any health ailments you may be having. Check out Maximized Turmeric for an efficient way to get your daily dose of turmeric in!
2) Swap Our Your Coffee (or Other Source of Caffeine) for Organic Matcha Green Tea
We’re not asking you to give up caffeine. We’re just asking you to swap out your current source for organic matcha green tea. Here’s why.
Organic matcha green tea promotes alkalinity by being high in antioxidants, which bind to free radicals and stabilize them by donating an electron. In addition, the flavonoids in green tea may help contribute to the maintenance or achievement of a normal body weight.
Check out our favorite brand of organic matcha green tea, which is a smooth and refreshing blend sure to become your new favorite source of caffeine. Just add one packet of tea to boiling water, steep, and enjoy.
3) Eat (or Drink) Your Plants!
Eating plants is a great way to protect the body against acidosis. Plants contain chemicals and antioxidants that remove toxins and restore balance to the body. If you have trouble eating your fruits and vegetables, try drinking them!
Rainbow Vibrance is a whole food plant based powder supplement that is easily added to water. One serving of Rainbow Vibrance contains 4.5 servings of fruits and vegetables. Each container of Rainbow Vibrance should last you one month if you use one serving per day.
Try adding in a glass of glass of Rainbow Vibrance every morning and you will be well on your way to an alkaline year.
4) Drink Alkaline Water
The water you are drinking may not be as clean as you think it is. Alkaline water may help get rid of toxins because it is equipped with minerals that promote alkalinity.
To have constant access to alkaline water, in an affordable way, try the pocket sized and inexpensive Zeta pH Booster Drops. Take them anywhere you go and turn tap water into alkaline water in seconds.
To use Zeta Booster drops, add 4 drops into a glass of water several times per day. Under these conditions, one bottle should supply you with 6 weeks of alkaline water.
5) Add Probiotics and Prebiotics to Your Diet
Although more research needs to be done to confirm many health claims surrounding probiotics and the many ways they may go onto improve health, we think it’s still worth your time to include them in your diet. Doing so may help improve digestive issues and strengthen the immune system; two areas that are largely responsible for alkalinity in the body. Anecdotally speaking, many people have found that they became more regular when they have supplemented with probiotics.
Probiotics are thought to work by providing good bacteria to the gut, which improves our microbiome. Prebiotics, on the other hand, can be thought of as food for the good bacteria in the gut. Adding both to your diet is an easy way to help remove toxins and in turn, restore alkalinity.
Food sources of probiotics include yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, sourdough bread, and miso soup. You can also make your own version of many of these foods. Prebiotics include asparagus, onions, bananas, dandelion greens, and chicory and vegetables that are generally high in fibre.
If you’re looking to supplement with a probiotic, we suggest Progurt probiotics, the world's most advanced probiotic.
