The Biocera Alkaline Water Jug offers a simple, reliable way to enjoy cleaner, alkaline, antioxidant water at home. More than just a filter, this jug transforms ordinary tap water into alkaline, antioxidant, structured with a molecular hydrogen content.
Since we introduced the Biocera Alkaline Jug to the UK in 2009, it has remained one of our most popular products. Customers appreciate its ease of use, consistent results, and the smooth, clean taste of the water it produces.
Unlike standard jug filters many of which leave water slightly acidic, the Biocera water filter uses natural bioceramic minerals to raise the pH, release molecular hydrogen, and improve water structure. No electricity needed, just fill and pour.
Each jug comes with two Biocera filter cartridges, fits neatly in most fridge doors, and holds 1.5 litres of filtered water. It's a straightforward way to support your hydration in a way that supports your health.
Most water filter jugs focus on removing impurities such as chlorine, hardness heavy metals and dissolved organic compounds. The Biocera Alkaline Water Filter Jug’s primary function is to transform the water into alkaline, antioxidant water with good structure. It also removes chlorine and reduces many other dissolved contaminants. The Biocera Alkaline Jug does not reduce hardness. However the effect of improved water structure often makes hardness less of a problem. The Jug also increases beneficial minerals in the water.
This is achieved through a multi-stage cartridge containing natural bioceramic minerals, activated carbon, and antibacterial balls. Together, these components filter out chlorine and many unwanted substances while improving the overall quality and structure of the water.
The result is water that tastes smoother and cleaner, with a raised pH and antioxidant properties. Many people find it more pleasant to drink than standard filtered or tap water.
The Biocera filter cartridge contains several components, each with a specific role:
This combination means your water is not only filtered but also enriched with alkaline minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium.
When you filter tap water through the typical jug filter, the water often becomes slightly acidic, with a pH ofaround 5.5. The Biocera Alkaline Jug Filter works differently. It typically raises the pH to between 9.0 and 9.5. which we consider to be preferable for human health.
Standard UK tap water has an ORP of around 150 to 300mV. After passing through the Biocera alkaline filter jug, this typically changes to between -50mV and -200mV, giving the water antioxidant properties.
The bioceramic minerals used in Biocera water filters are NSF certified. To our knowledge, Biocera is the one of the very few companies to have received this certification for their ceramic filter media. NSF certification requires extensive testing to ensure the absence of toxic compounds. The jug itself is made from BPA-free plastic.
This alkaline filter jug suits anyone looking for a simple way to improve the quality of their drinking water. It works well for hot and cold drinks, cooking, and washing fruit and vegetables. There's no electricity required and no complicated setup.
If you're new to alkaline antioxidant water or simply want a more convenient option than bottled water, the Biocera Alkaline Water Filter Jug is an excellent place to start.
Each Biocera filter cartridge lasts approximately eight weeks or 350 litres, whichever comes first. If you live in a hard water area, you may need to replace cartridges more frequently.
Store the jug in the fridge for the freshest tasting water. If calcium deposits appear (common in hard water areas), clean the jug regularly with a 50:50 solution of warm water and vinegar using a non-abrasive cloth.

What is the difference between the Biocera Alkaline Jug and ordinary jug filters?
Standard jug filters remove contaminants but often leave water slightly acidic. The Biocera Alkaline Jug filters chlorine and organic contaminants while also alkalising the water using natural bioceramic minerals. It raises the pH and reduces the ORP, giving the water antioxidant properties.
What pH can I expect from the filtered water?
If your tap water has a pH of around 7.5, the Biocera jug will typically produce water with a pH between 8.5 and 9.5. This is a comfortable range for daily drinking.
Does the Biocera Jug soften water?
No. The jug is designed to alkalise and restructure water rather than soften it. Softening the water would make it acidic, which would work against the jug's purpose.
Why do I see white deposits or calcium build-up in the jug?
This is normal, especially in hard water areas. The jug changes the structure of the water, causing fine calcium particles to come out of solution. Clean the jug regularly with a 50:50 mix of warm water and vinegar to keep it clear.
Does the Biocera Jug filter fluoride?
No. The jug filters chlorine and other contaminants but does not remove fluoride. Not all UK water companies add fluoride, so you may wish to check with your local supplier. If fluoride removal is important to you, consider our Energy Plus Under-Sink Filter, which removes over 92% of fluoride.
How often should I change the filter cartridge?
We recommend changing the cartridge every eight weeks. The antibacterial media in the Biocera filter prevents bacterial growth, allowing it to last longer than standard cartridges which typically need replacing every four weeks.
Why change the filter if the pH is still high after eight weeks?
The cartridge has several functions beyond raising pH. Its ability to filter chlorine and other impurities decreases over time, and the antibacterial properties also reduce. Changing the cartridge on schedule ensures you continue to get the full benefits.
Will Biocera cartridges fit other jug filters?
Yes. Biocera filter cartridges fit most jug filters that use the round-type cartridges commonly sold in supermarkets.
Can the used cartridges be recycled?
Yes. The filter contents can be added to your garden or composted, as the media can benefit soil. The empty plastic shell can go in your plastic recycling.
Is there an option for alkaline water on tap?
Yes. If you'd like similar quality water directly from your tap, consider our Energy Plus Water Filter. This four-stage inline system uses Biocera bioceramic minerals to also give you alkaline, antioxidant water with good structure. It gives you very high-level removal of contaminants such as pesticides, drug residues, PFAS and fluoride.
