    What Exactly is Alkaline Water?

    You’ve most likely heard the words alkaline and pH in science class. The pH value of water can be either acid, alkaline (basic) or neutral.

    pH stands for power of hydrogen. Which basically tells you the concentration of hydrogen ions in the water.

    You can actually get hydrogen tablets and add them into your water. But you’d first want to make sure that your water is purified.

    That’s why an alkaline water machine or jug is the optimal way to make alkaline water.

    Alkaline water, as you might expect, is more basic. It has a pH higher than 7 which is neutral. Acidic water is more damaging to your body and has a pH of less than 7.

    Coca-cola, and other fizzy drinks have a pH of 2.6. Most alcoholic drinks are acidic, with the exception of Fix High Alkaline Vodka.

Positive energy is often seen as a fuzzy concept.

The question is:

What is positive energy in reality?

If we go back to some ancient teachings from the 1500’s there might be some glimmers of truth.

For, these days, the modern world has become far too complex and confusing.

In the ancient Vedic texts, studied by yogis,

…we find the concept of tamas.

Tamas is a stuck energy, one of inertia, inactivity, darkness and materiality.

I’d suggest, quite the opposite of positive energy.

When we eat tamasic foods like:

Processed foods, vinegar, bread, pastries, cakes, alcohol, leftovers and stale food,

… we become dull and lethargic.

Likewise, when we surround ourselves with people who are in this aspect, we’ll become the same.

This is the lowest type of energy on earth.

So, what do we do instead to fill our life with positive energy?

The best way is to design a lifestyle that supports our health and wellbeing.

The ancient yogis called this a sattvic lifestyle.

That is when we bring energy and awareness to what is best for us.

It’s thought that the ability to have a more up-beat attitude isn’t due to our physical body, it’s to do with our energy body.

Our energy body in yoga is called pranayama, and is associated with the element water.

As your energy should flow like water.


In this article we’ll explore the three energies of nature, what positive energy is and the most natural form of water. When combined, we can create a harmonious life, full of vitality.

 

The Three Energies of Nature

When we understand the three energies of nature that make up everything, then it’s possible to understand positive energy. A lot of people in the West feel like they must be doing something all the time. This energy in yoga is called rajasic energy. Where we feel like we always have to be doing something. It can look impressive, as it can harness many material gains. But when we’re true to ourselves, these temporary gains don’t fill us up. Plus the tamasic, dull, dark energy is inherently materialistic.

Instead, step back, and ask yourself if what you’re doing is making you happy? Is it for your highest good? Sattva means pure, clean and positive energy. It comes from the foods we eat, the choices we make and the lifestyle we follow. If you prioritise taking care of your own alignment, then you can show up and inspire others. While there are many qualities of nature, the one that promotes wellbeing is the Sattvic approach. The quality that contains peace, harmony, purity and clarity.

Vibrant Health & The Sattvic Lifestyle

Sattvic foods are natural, light and healthy. It’s said that these foods increase energy, mental clarity, happiness and calmness. All qualities that encourage life, growth and development. Which in turn equals vitality. In fact, vibrancy is created the exact same way through physical exercise, sleep, stress management, avoiding toxins and eating a whole-foods plant based diet.

I would also add in drinking water that is as close to nature as possible. We now know that this water is structured water, which I’ll discuss later on in this article.

Vibrant health isn’t just the absence of disease. Disease can brew under the surface for decades, and only rear its ugly head when it’s getting too late. The best thing is to grab your life with both hands and take charge. To have vibrant health is to wake up in the morning full of life, feeling refreshed and eager for the day. It’s a process that can take time, but is greatly enhanced by consuming structured water, healthy food, exercising adequately and sleeping deeply.

Your Positive Energy Inspires Others

Self-care is often seen as a somewhat selfish practice in the West. While nothing could be further from the truth. If you take good care of yourself, then you can be there for others. Plus taking care of yourself will result in more energy, and positive actions in the world. The opposite results in people needing to take care of you. This is because over time, poor lifestyle choices stack up and lead to the many chronic illnesses that plague humanity today.

We can all work on discovering new ways to take care of ourselves. One interesting angle is that of ensuring that you’re in a growth mindset. That means that instead of saying “I can’t” do something, you could say “how can I,” or “I can learn to.” The thing is, we’re always changing, and in the past we thought that as adults we were stuck. But we’re not, the latest science on neuroplasticity proves that our brains are always changing. We can always pick a new path, one of health vitality and positivity. How we think affects what we achieve in the world.

Nature Takes Care of Itself (if we let it)

Mother nature knows better than we humans do. Sure we’ve advanced in science and technology. But also in destroying the planet. We’ve let that tamasic, negative, materialistic energy take over the world. This has taken its toll on all of us. In essence we’ve been looking for hope and positivity in all the wrong places. The human species could do with “being” more than doing. All of this “doing” is driving people mad.

In nature, water is structured. It’s completely perfect, and exactly what is required for a healthy vibrant body. Yet, we’ve messed with it, and most water isn’t structured, it’s base water that lacks vitality. This can contribute to dehydration, simply because the water isn’t compatible with the human body. Water from a stream is alkaline and structured. If we want to reclaim our health, then it’s a good idea to get back to nature, by choosing the most natural approaches to life.

Where Can I Get Structured Water?

Structured water is actually H3O2, not H2O. It’s the fourth phase of water, sometimes referred to as EZ water. We now know that this form of water is what our bodies thrive on. Many other types of water are harder for the body to digest. Structured water is found everywhere in nature, including inside you. The best way to consume structured water should be by going to a well or a spring. However, unfortunately, many of our water sources have been polluted. We can easily measure the alkalinity and acidity of our bodies at home using pH test strips. For testing our drinking water, it is best to use a pH Reagent.

Metabolic waste products and waste produced by what you eat can impact all areas of your body. Such as the fascia (also known as the chemical buffer), the interconnected matrix that helps your lymphatic system drain waste products from your blood and tissues.

CO2 plays a major role in balancing your body’s pH. To put it in perspective, when CO2 dissolves in water it creates carbonic acid that acidifies the water. Since your body is made up of more than 60% water, and your lungs are 83% water. It begins to make sense that proper breathing can help detoxify the body and balance pH.

The pH of the body is maintained by removing waste products like cellular waste, and carbon dioxide, through sweating, breathing bowel movements and urine.

7 Things That Can Mess Up Your pH Balance

As explained above, your pH balance is tightly regulated. If your kidneys are not working properly, then your blood pH can be thrown off.

Your lungs also play a key role in maintaining a healthy pH by expelling carbon dioxide, which is slightly acidic. If your lungs or kidneys are not healthy, then you could develop acidosis or alkalosis. Which are both serious conditions.

You can throw your pH off if you are:


  • Consuming (or breathing in) chemical/ artificial products
  • Eating an abundance of sugary foods
  • Overly indulging in a few too many glasses of wine/ alcohol
  • Suffering from a severe respiratory disease
  • Taking narcotics or sleep medication
  • Have low bicarbonate levels
  • Overly stressed (overactive adrenal glands)

How to Restore pH Balance Naturally


There are a few situations where you may need to go to a physician to assist with body pH. These can include if you’re suffering from diabetes or are taking medication.

If you think that your pH is out of balance, and your symptoms aren’t severe, then you can do an at-home urine pH test first thing in the morning to measure your pH levels.

Lactobacillus is a good bacteria found in the mouth, intestine and vagina. When this bacteria isn’t present in large quantities, then there can be an overgrowth of bad bacteria like Gardnerella bacteria.

Therefore one natural remedy that you can take to restore pH balance is a probiotic that includes healthy doses of lactobacillus.

Other ways to balance your pH include drinking alkaline water, eating lots of alkaline foods and staying away from acidic foods.

Acidic foods are meat, fizzy drinks, white bread, white pasta, refined sugar and alcohol. The alkaline diet comprises alkaline water, whole foods like fruits, vegetables, some nuts eg. almonds and seeds.

We all know that processed sugar is bad for our health, but how does this impact your body’s pH?

The best way to monitor your pH is to measure urine, as your blood tightly regulates pH. Leaving the detox systems of the body to deal with toxic acidic waste.

Sugar has a pH of 7, so you could be forgiven for thinking that it’s neutral. In point of fact, sugar ruins your pH, in turn damaging overall health and wellbeing, increasing disease risk and overloading the body with oxidative stress.

In this article, we’ll explore what sugar does to your body, what pH has to do with anything, how acidic environments stress you out, and what you can do to balance your body’s pH.

What Exactly is pH in the Body?


The pH of your body measures how acidic or alkaline your body is. pH is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. The more acidic, the lower the pH.

Your blood should always remain slightly alkaline (pH 7.35 to 7.45).

The pH of your urine tells us a lot. It’s always changing due to stress, exercise, and diet. Therefore, urine is a great measure of the acidity of your body.

Acid-forming foods like processed meat, dairy, refined grains, and sugars can tip the acid/alkaline balance of your body. While alkaline-forming foods, like fruits and vegetables, will tip your body in the opposite direction, setting the scene for health and wellbeing.

PRO TIP: The best way to measure the acidity of your body is by using a pH strip and measuring the pH of your urine, first thing in the morning.

How Does Sugar Impact Your Body’s pH?


Sugar can create an imbalance in both sodium and potassium (your body’s electrolytes), which can in turn affect your ability to absorb water.

Excess sugar intake also encourages your body to excrete calcium, to neutralise the acidic waste.

Furthermore, the decreased levels of sodium bicarbonate create an ever more acidic environment.

Sodium bicarbonate breaks down to sodium and bicarbonate, neutralising acidity in your body. For this reason, sodium bicarbonate is the main compound that buffers the blood, making it less acidic.

A reduction in sodium bicarbonate due to increased intake of sugar creates a double whammy of acid-building compounds.

Processed food is notoriously high in sugar, and crowds out alkaline foods like fruits and vegetables. Simply because nature’s food is more subtle and won’t give you the instant high that processed carbohydrates and sugars will.

Research has shown that people who eat a lot of refined sugar tend to eat less health-promoting fruits and vegetables.

According to the NHS, adults should have no more than 30g of sugar per day, children aged 2-10 should have no more than 24g and those aged 4-6 should have no more than 19g of sugar per day.

The magic number for vegetables and fruits, meanwhile, is ten. According to Imperial College London, 10 portions a day could prevent as many as 7.8 million premature deaths worldwide every year.

Acidic Environments Stress You Out

When you consume a lot of sugar and processed foods, you get stressed out. Why? It’s because the acidic environment created by eating excess sugar triggers the release of cortisol (your body’s stress hormone). Leading to anxiety and chronic inflammation. Not a nice mix.

However, your body is clever. It’s made up of trillions of microbes that work in systems that are designed to maintain a balanced pH. They use systems like cell membrane integrity (increased with omega-3s), metabolic regulation (enhanced with exercise and vitamin D), and macromolecule repair (enhanced with nutrition and detoxification).

Sugar Causes Inflammation – Especially Sugary Drinks


Believe it or not, foods, including sugars and foods that are highly processed, can actually cause chronic inflammation.

A revealing study of 29 healthy people exposed that drinking just 40 grams of added sugar from one 375ml can of fizzy juice increased inflammatory markers such insulin resistance and LDL cholesterol.

Consuming excess sugar can increase levels of uric acid, in turn, leading to inflammation and insulin resistance. While those who consumed milk, water or diet juice had no increase in uric acid levels.

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) form when protein or fats combine with sugar. Consuming excess sugar produces too many AGEs, leading to oxidative stress and inflammation.

Another byproduct of consuming too much sugar, as I’m sure you will know, is increased weight gain.

How to Balance pH Levels Naturally


One way to balance your pH levels is to exercise.

Exercise generates energy in your muscles and allows oxygen to enter the deep tissues of your body.

Another approach to naturally reduce the sugar in your cells is to do a water fast or take up intermittent fasting protocols.

This reduces the amount of glucose in your cells via apoptosis or autophagy. Diet is the best-known way to balance your pH levels naturally.

A major route to balancing your pH naturally is by consuming high alkaline-forming foods such as:

If I were to ask you, what’s the largest organ in your body, what would your answer be? If you go by what we learned at school… you might respond "the skin." However, recent research has shown that a new organ is the largest organ in the body.

This giant organ is called the interstitium or fascia. It contains a fluid called the interstitial fluid, that compartmentalises the toxins in your body. The fascia can be found in between the blood and the skin. If your body gets too acidic, your blood will attempt to create balance, by using the interstitium as a buffer for the blood.

Interestingly, you can have clean blood work, because your body has compensated with the fascia. The only way to find out the truth about the pH of your body is to test the interstitial fluid. Which is a process that doctors rarely do.

In this article, we’ll go over what the fascia has to do with the pH of your body, your inner environment, sepsis, testing the pH of your body, as well as how body pH can change your DNA (and what to do about it).

Sepsis is the No.1 Cause of Death in Hospitals

Sepsis is one of the biggest killers in the UK, and the number of people developing sepsis is on the rise. With around 123,000 cases per year in England alone. Accounting for 37,000 deaths.

Some naturopathic doctors believe that sepsis is an acidic condition in the fascia. Others think that sepsis is a bacterial condition, when in fact, the bacteria forms because of the acidic environment in the interstitium. Which in turn promotes the proliferation of bacteria.

Rather than blaming bacteria for the condition, you need to cleanse the environment of the acidic build-up. How? By creating a more alkaline environment.

Testing Morning Urine With pH Strips

The pH of your interstitial fluids will show you how acidic your body is. The best way to do this at home is to test your morning urine.

The flood of waste that exits the body after sleeping will be from interstitial fluids. Which is then channeled into the kidneys for elimination.

A pH of below 5.5 is a critical marker. Dentists know this in the mouth. To keep your teeth and gums healthy, you should have a pH of no less than 5.6 in your mouth.

The blood is the last organ to go, your body will protect its pH at all costs. The interstitial fluids are the alkaline buffering system of the human body.

Medical doctors have not been taught about this organ, as it was only found in the 19th century. Plus, significant scientific research into the fascia wasn’t carried out until 2007, when the first International Fascia Congress began.

It’s important to note that the pH of your interstitial fluid can alter your DNA through epigenetics. If you don’t change the environment, nothing heals.

A Massive Discovery in Human Anatomy

If things are normal in the blood, that doesn’t mean you’re healthy. Your blood is only 10% of your bodily fluids. Therefore, testing your blood only tells part of the story.

If you want to test the interstitial fluids accurately, you have to use special non-invasive electrodes. Every cell has a vibrational frequency and can be measured on the electrodes.

Interestingly, a similar process is done on NASA astronauts, but it’s not yet in the mainstream medical community.

Research carried out by Dr. Young and his team found that the stomach produces alkalinity. Stating that “the biochemistry of the stomach is often misunderstood. The stomach is covered with “cover cells”, they draw water, salt and carbon dioxide to make sodium bicarbonate.”

His research has discovered that the stomach doesn’t actually digest food. In fact, it’s your teeth that liquidise your food. More reason to chew 32 times!

Acid reflux is the body’s deficiency in alkalinity, i.e. acidic waste buildup. Sodium bicarbonate will quickly stop acid reflux in most people.

For your body to turn food into stem cells, they need to be in an alkaline state (pH8+) in a liquid state. Why is this important? Stem cells are essential for regeneration and healing.

We are Light (Electrical) Beings

The best water to drink is ionised water, that’s been charged with electrons. Water with an electrical charge – or water that carries energy (light) effectively into your cells.

Distilled water is electrically neutral, and as such isn’t good to drink in most circumstances. The ideal water pH is 8.5-9: alkaline water.

Metabolic waste that we produce is acidic and toxic to our cells. Acidic waste is also sugar-based.

Here is an easy way to remember:

  • Sugar – acidic – toxic
  • Salt – alkaline – produces energy

Alkaline Water Neutralises Acids in Your Body

Acids are proton donors. Another word for protons is hydrogen atoms or H+ ions. Therefore, alkaline water neutralises the acids in your body.

You also need colloidal salts that cells can use. Salt conducts the transfer of electrons.

Low sodium (salt) levels mean that you’ll be tired and fatigued.

Sugar is a waste product of your metabolism. Think of bananas – they get sweeter as they ripen. The sugar content is increased by cellular breakdown.

You’re an electrical being that runs on electrons. When you use electricity you’ll make a waste product, lactic acid. This needs to be removed from the body quickly, otherwise it gets made into fat to protect your organs from the acids.

The healing properties of pure water are immense. Water is required for every system in the body to run efficiently, and as such is a top priority for health and wellness.

You’re probably aware that you should drink about eight glasses of water per day, or 2-3 litres.

But did you know that there are key times to consume water?

In this article we’ll discuss the best times to drink water during the day to optimise your health.

How Often Should I Drink Water?


You should aim to drink eight glasses of water a day. However, this intake might increase if you are in a hot climate, sweating a lot, ill or exercising.

The amount of water and frequency of intake also varies depending on your age and gender. As a rough guide, a woman should drink 2.2 litres/ 8-9 cups while a man should drink 3 litres/ 13 cups.

There’s no one size fits all, though. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers will need to drink up to 3 litres per day. Humid weather can also increase the amount of water that you should drink.

Some people who are prone to dehydration  (like the elderly) will need to be more strict to ensure that they are drinking enough water. Drinking water at optimal times of the day can help to promote adequate water consumption.

Create a Drinking Water Schedule


If you (or a loved one) are having trouble drinking enough water, then try writing out a schedule for drinking water.

This could look like 1 glass of water in the morning, 1 before breakfast, 1 before lunch, and 1 before dinner. That will cover half of your daily quota. You can either double the quota or add in a bottle of water before and during exercise.

Best practice is to have a bottle of fresh pure drinking water with you at all times and sip it throughout the day. Which should make up your daily water intake, especially if you follow the schedule above.

1.   500ml First Thing


Before you get out of bed, it’s a great idea to drink a 500ml glass of water. If you need to get up and go to the bathroom first, that’s ok.

The idea is that you flush your body with pure water as soon as you wake up.

Drinking a large glass of water when you wake up is a signal for all of your organs in the body to fire up, and be ready for the day ahead.

One Youtube video looked at what type of water will get your cells flowing smoothly. They compared tap water, coffee and alkaline water then looked at how the cells of the blood reacted under a microscope.

Interestingly, they found that the most beneficial water to drink was alkaline water.

Another idea is to add grated ginger or a slice of lemon into your water to nourish your body. Why not keep a glass of water on your bedside table? And drink it as soon as you wake up, as part of a healthy morning routine.

2. Drink When You Feel Hungry


Dehydration can send mixed signals to the brain, making us feel like we’re hungry.

In actual fact, we are in need of water. Interestingly, science has exposed that our feelings of thirst, hunger and satiety are most likely developed in childhood. Which in turn can alter cognition and behaviour accordingly.

Hunger, energy intake and thirst are probably more intricately linked than we had previously thought. Until recently 75% of our fluid intake would occur at meal times. Which means that the signals for hunger or thirst can easily be confused, as we do both activities at the same time.

3. Drink When You Feel Tired

Have you ever noticed that dip in energy at 4pm?  This energy slump could be due to dehydration.

One of the key reasons for feeling tired is, in fact,  dehydration. So every time you feel tired during the day, reach for a glass of water and see if that makes you feel more awake.

4. Before Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner


You’ve probably heard that drinking water will fill you up. Often when we think that we’re hungry, it’s actually our bodies’ many cries for water that we are hearing.

By drinking a glass of water before a meal, you’ll avoid overeating. Water also flushes out the stomach lining and the intestines so that it is ready to digest the new meal.

5. Before, During and After Exercise


In the warm weather you’ll probably need more than one 500ml glass of water before exercise. Ensuring that you’re properly hydrated before and during exercise is critical to a good workout.

Both extremes of heat require that you drink extra water to keep the fluids in your body moving. Drinking extra water before exercise in hot weather can also help prevent heat stroke.

Replenishing the water you used up while exercising is essential. However, you should already have done a good job prepping your system and sipping water during your workout. After you’ve completed your workout, sip gently out of your water bottle to prevent stomach cramps.

6. Bacteria, Flu and Germs


If you’ve been around people who are sick, or are ill yourself, drink lots of water. By drinking water you’ll be hydrating your organs while flushing out the bad guys.

Diseases with the symptoms of diarrhoea and sickness can quickly lead to dehydration and complications. Therefore, if you’ve been exposed to germs then drink lots of water to flush your system out.

When Not to Drink Water

 

It’s a good idea to stop drinking water an hour or two before bed. Especially if you have a weak bladder.

Drinking too much water before a test or important meeting can also be a bad idea. Instead, sip water before and rehydrate fully afterwards.

The Bottom Line

No matter when you are drinking water, it’s important to drink pure clean water. Contaminants in the water can be bad for your health.

The vast majority of people are unwittingly poisoning themselves by drinking the wrong types of fluid.

I've heard it said many times that drinking fizzy drinks or tea and coffee is just as good as water when it comes to hydrating yourself. But that’s a myth. There are aisles filled with drinks in the supermarkets, but none of the options therein compare with pure natural water. All other drinks contain chemicals and plastics that negatively impact health.

By laying out the facts in this article, I hope that you'll feel inspired to drink high-quality water in place of other drinks. Let's start with the most commonly consumed beverages.

Coffee


Most people consume coffee on a daily basis and feel like they couldn’t live without it. But did you know that caffeine is a nerve poison?

Caffeine is stored in the leaves of the tea plant and coffee beans, and is designed to ward off pests thanks to the presence of the enzyme phosphodiesterase.

Ingesting this enzyme is the kiss of death for animals in the wild as it alters memory, judgement and impairs natural survival instincts.

The average cup of coffee contains 94.8 mg of caffeine. Used as a pick-me-up, caffeine-rich coffee disrupts homeostasis in the body, using up stored energy that is meant for emergency situations.

Drawing from these emergency reserves daily can deplete life energy and lead to disease.

Tea


Britain is one of the greatest tea consumers in the world: an average Brit will consume 1.9kg tea per year.

The colour in tea comes from tannic acid, a compound used to harden leather. The main active agent in tea is caffeine, which causes dehydration.

Rather than hydrating you, excessive tea consumption can cause dehydration.

Alcohol

Most people know that drinking alcohol won’t provide hydration. In fact, alcohol is a diuretic, and as such, it pulls water out of your cells.

The stress that alcohol places on the body encourages the release of endorphins, which have an opiate-like effect on the body. The same endorphins that keep a runner hooked to attaining the runners’ high are created when we drink alcohol.

There are many reasons that should deter you from consuming excessive amounts of alcohol such as liver damage and suppressing the immune system. Additionally, drinking alcohol can lead to anxiety and a depressed mood.

Alcohol also disrupts the emergency water supply in the brain, which can lead to hangover headaches.

Bottled Water


Bottled water is contaminated with hundreds of tiny plastic particles. Researchers have found an average of 325 microplastic particles per litre of bottled water.

These microplastics are small enough to pass through endothelial cells and other protective tissues in the body.

This means that microplastics can find their way into the bloodstream and even into major organs.

Worryingly, these tiny particles can also make their way through the placental barrier.

What we know is that microplastics can accumulate in our bodies. Frederick vom Saal, professor emeritus of biological sciences at the University of Missouri, stated:

 “In animal models and in epidemiological studies in humans, we have a correlation between plastic exposures and known health hazards.”

Plastic pollutants are implicated in many cognitive issues and as such are thought to have negative biological effects. This is true for our bodies and the environment as a whole.

One 2017 study exposed the harsh truth: that a massive 79% of all plastic that has ever been produced is now in nature or a landfill. With up to 12 million tonnes of plastic being poured into the sea in 2010 alone.

Soda and Fizzy Drinks

The refined sugar and artificial colouring used in fizzy juice, meanwhile, is notoriously harmful to health. Even if you opt for a diet drink, you’ll be consuming aspartame, which is deleterious.

It isn’t just the caffeine, flavouring, colouring, sugar or aspartame in fizzy drinks that can affect your health, though.

Researchers from  Birzeit University in the Palestinian West Bank found that it’s the actual “fizz” in fizzy drinks that produces ghrelin, the hunger hormone.

Meaning that fizzy drinks will stimulate your appetite and promote fat storage.

Sugary drinks can cause tooth decay and so should be avoided. The Soft Drinks Industry Levy (SDIL) commonly known as the “sugar tax” came into force in the UK in an attempt to detract people from buying sugary drinks.

However, as I have outlined, it isn’t just the sugar that is the problem. Fizzy juice is also often filled with caffeine and guarana – and these stimulants are addictive.

Fizzy drinks are made of unfiltered tap water, so you’ll be ingesting whatever nasties that make their way into the water supply.

Energy Drinks

 

Energy drinks stimulate the central nervous system with caffeine and other compounds like sugar, taurine or aspartame.

This toxic blend has been found to be fatal, with over 34 deaths directly attributed to energy drinks.

Swedish authorities have warned that energy drinks shouldn’t be consumed after exercise or with alcohol.

Additionally, the extra spike in energy felt when a person consumes an energy drink will result in a crash in energy as the drink wears off.

Norway, Denmark and France have banned energy drinks from all stores, except pharmacies due to the high caffeine content.

One study found that just two cans of energy juice can cause arteries to dilate.

The Bottom Line

Drinking pure high-quality water will release endorphins and stimulate the nervous system. Most other drinks cause dehydration, which can lead to disease over the long term.

Despite corporate soft drink giants making US $31,483 million per year (in the UK alone), there is no substitute for water when it comes to hydration.
